Hip joint replacement is indicated in severely arthritic, diseased, and painful joints. An artificial joint is created by using a high density polyethylene cup and a cobalt chromium metal alloy.

The new artificial hip takes the place of the diseased hip andis held in place by bone cement or by actual bony ingrowth. Following complete healing, most dogs return to normal gait and
